What If You Already Have What You’re Praying For?
“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness.”
— 2 Peter 1:3
Listening to the homily at Holy Mass on New Year’s Day, there was one line that landed straight in my heart and refused to let go:
Most of us spend our time praying for gifts we already have.
That sentence doesn’t accuse—it reveals.
It invites us to pause and ask an uncomfortable but freeing question:
What if we already possess the very things we keep asking God for?
If that’s true, then the issue isn’t God’s generosity.
Instead, the struggle lies in our willingness to believe Him. How often do we ask God for strength while ignoring the strength He’s already placed within us?
How often do we pray for clarity, purpose, confidence, peace—while overlooking the graces, gifts, and talents He has already entrusted to us?
We don’t lack blessings.
We lack belief.
Why We Hesitate to Live Into Our Full Poential
So often, we believe the Gospel in general but hesitate to apply it personally. We trust that God works powerfully in the lives of others, yet we quietly question whether He will do the same for us. As a result, we hold back. We wait. We assume we are missing something essential.
Because of that doubt, we look outward for answers—more affirmation, more clarity, more signs. Meanwhile, God continues to work within us, patiently offering grace we have not yet claimed.
Still, the truth remains simple and steady:
Everything the Father gave Jesus Christ, He gives freely to us.
Grace Given—but Not Always Used
God never gives halfway gifts.
He doesn’t call without equipping.
And He never plants something without intending it to grow.
Yet, when we fail to recognize what we already carry, we delay the life God invites us to live. We circle the same prayers, not because they are wrong, but because we haven’t trusted the answer.
Scripture makes this clear:
“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness.” (2 Peter 1:3)
That means grace isn’t scarce. It’s active.
However, unused grace remains untapped potential.
Start With What You Have
Rather than waiting for more, God invites us to begin with what is already in our hands. Your gifts, your creativity, your compassion, your ability to lead, serve, or love—none of these are accidents.
Instead of asking, “What am I lacking?”
Try asking, “What have I not yet used?”
When we choose faithfulness over comparison, something shifts. We stop striving to become someone else and begin honoring who God has already formed us to be.
Look Inward—Then Move Onward
It’s easy to believe that clarity will come from the outside. We search for it in approval, productivity, or constant movement. Yet God invites us in a different direction.
Look onward—to the One who already dwells within you.
There, you’ll find presence instead of pressure.
Peace instead of performance.
Confidence rooted in truth, not comparison.
Once we stay there—connected, honest, receptive—we stop begging and start believing.
Live Like You Are Equipped
You don’t need a new calling.
You don’t need more grace.
And you don’t need to wait until you feel ready.
God has already given you what you need.
Now He invites you to live from it.
Use what you have.
Trust what He placed in you.
And allow grace to move from gift to action.
Because the Gospel isn’t just near you—it’s alive in you.
YOU ARE loved,
Leslie
